Early Holiday Planning

It's hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner! Since we also have our son's wedding coming up soon, I thought it would be a good idea to get a head start on the holiday preparations. Here are a few things I have been working on over the last couple of weeks:

Gift Shopping

From my past experience, I have found that good organization is key to a stress-free holiday gift shopping.  There are a few tips for stress-free holiday shopping here.  Putting these tips into practice, I am just about done with my holiday gift shopping and wrapping.

Formulating a Plan for Decking the Halls

When we decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving, I will be adding a few décor updates.  We already replaced the artificial large tree we use in the dining and living area last year. We also have two smaller trees, one in our bedroom, and the other in the breakfast/gathering room.  Both small trees have seen better days. Since I was pleased with the large tree we bought last year, I purchased two smaller versions of it.

I plan to decorate the breakfast/gathering  room in a rustic snow theme and found the perfect items to use at factorydirect.com. You can't beat their prices! The tree in the room will be ornamented with snowmen, pinecones, cranberries, and snowflakes.  These Melrose Mixed Needle Wispy Pine Wreaths from amazon.com will look great on the windows.  I ordered three wreaths, so I was thankful for the free shipping with my Amazon Prime account.

This Pottery Barn burlap striped ribbon will be perfect for hanging the wreaths and also to use as garland on the tree.  One 25-foot roll should be plenty.

I also decided to replace the garlands we normally use on the stairway railings, which are open to the breakfast/gathering room.  I saved 15% on two realistic-looking Kinsey garlands at Ballard Designs.  They will be the perfect transition between the rustic and traditional décors in the gathering and living rooms.

While running a few errands at the mall, in preparation for the wedding, we headed into Yankee Candle to sample their holiday scents.  I fell in love with the Apple & Pine Needles scent.  It smells heavenly! I bought a medium candle, which I have been burning nonstop.  Since I am enjoying it now, I will likely have to go back and get another one to use for Christmas.

Finding  Festive Holiday Attire

With upcoming Christmas festivities in mind, I bought this pretty cocktail dress at Sears to wear to our son's wedding rehearsal dinner.  It's so comfortable on and paired with black leggings and flats, it will also double as my holiday outfit.

Having the Right Attitude

While being bombarded with constant  commercialism during the holidays, it's easy to lose focus on the true meaning of Christmas.  However, I have been inspired by Jennifer Walker's book, Keeping Christ AS Christmas. With its practical and inspirational ideas, information, and instruction,  I know it will help me seek and find Jesus in every Christmas activity.
